Peak to Peak before breakfast, pass opening dates that decide the calendar, and what altitude takes off the dyno.
Denver Chapter covers Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins. The Peak to Peak Highway runs 55 miles and starts less than an hour from any of them, which is the single best thing about owning a car in this state. Guanella Pass, Mount Blue Sky, Trail Ridge Road at 12,180 feet, and Independence Pass at 12,095 feet.
The passes decide the year. Independence Pass closes in early November and reopens the Thursday before Memorial Day, and nothing longer than 35 feet is allowed over it. Trail Ridge is shut from November to May. Half the planning here is knowing what is open.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb runs in late June: 12.42 miles, 156 corners, 9,390 feet at the start line and 14,115 at the top.
Altitude is the other half. A naturally aspirated engine gives up roughly 3 per cent per 1,000 feet, so a car that made its brochure number at sea level does not make it here. A turbo gives up less. This is not a rumour, it is why everyone you meet has an opinion about forced induction.
For any car or motorcycle owner in Denver and the Colorado Front Range. Open with approval, and an ownership photo so chapter runs are made of real vehicles.
What happens here: meet listings along the Front Range, pass opening and closure dates as they are published, route cards for Peak to Peak and the high passes, altitude tuning and cooling threads, overlanding and trailhead route sharing, Pikes Peak week planning, and shop referrals from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs.
