Salt, sand and runways. One pass, one number, and a year of preparation behind it.
Land Speed is for people who spend a year preparing for two minutes. Class and record structures and what a record actually requires, gearing and final drive for a single top-speed pass, aerodynamic drag and lift at speed, tyres genuinely rated for it, parachutes, roll structures and fire systems, wheel and hub inspection between runs, and the difference between a flying mile, a standing mile and a half mile on a runway.
For verified owners who run at land speed and standing-mile meetings, on two wheels or four, at venues such as Bonneville, El Mirage, Lake Gairdner and the airfield mile events. Builders and crew are welcome.
What happens here: entry and licensing threads for the major meetings, class rules explained without the folklore, gearing and drag calculations checked by people who have run the numbers, safety equipment and inspection checklists, engine and fuelling setups for sustained full throttle, and run reports with speeds in km/h, conditions and what broke.
