Angeles Crest at dawn, Ortega on a Sunday, Palomar's South Grade when you have the day.
SoCal Canyon Runs is about the roads rather than one city. Angeles Crest Highway climbs sixty six miles into the San Gabriels and is best before the traffic and the patrols. Mulholland and Latigo once the marine layer burns off. Ortega Highway and South Grade up Palomar Mountain, twenty one hairpins, on a Sunday morning. Big Bear and the high desert when somebody has the whole day.
Members come from Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire and San Diego, and each of those has its own chapter as well. This one is the club where the runs get planned.
The roads are not guaranteed. Angeles Crest loses sections to storms, Mulholland has had traffic calming put in at the crash spots, and both are watched. We drive accordingly, because a road lost to somebody showing off does not come back.
For any car or motorcycle owner in Southern California. Open with approval, and an ownership photo so runs are made of real vehicles.
What happens here: run cards with meeting points, departure times and fuel stops, live closure and surface reports for Angeles Crest, Mulholland, Ortega and Palomar, pace and convoy briefings before every run, photography stops, and hosting for members visiting from out of state.
